A percentage of measured distance statement describes a parameter that is in error by a constant percentage of the actual distance measurement. For capacitance level measurements, the actual distance measurement is the distance from the bottom of the sensor to the material. For radar level measurements, the actual distance measurement is the distance from the base of the sensor to the material. Therefore, capacitance and radar level measurement systems are bottom-up and top-down measurements respectively.

There's more to boiler level control than measuring level and adjusting a feedwater valve. Improved measurements and inverse response are just a few of the influences on operating boilers in a reliable manner. click for more...
Some time ago there was interest as to whether a switch or transmitter should be installed in applications where either will serve the intended purpose. For example, a level transmitter on a tank may be necessary to manage its inventory so that the liquid does not overflow or become so low as to cause problems with its pump. Presuming that there are no other operational constraints, it may be acceptable for the level to vary between 30 and 70 percent of the tank contents. click for more...
