Fieldbus Technology (Part 4 of 5)
Spitzer and Boyes, LLC

PROFIBUS-PA was built on the backbone of PROFIBUS-DP which was created to provide the data transfer needs for factory automation and materials handling in discrete parts manufacturing. It was designed to be the communications network for linking programmable logic controllers (PLC) together and with host computer systems and Human Machine Interface (HMI) used in the factory. click for more...

Air Bubble Troubles
Flow Control (May 2008)

QUIZ:   Impulse tubing that is not completely full can cause measurement error, as empty tubing runs the risk of trapping air bubbles. In one installation, the transmitter taps in a two bar steam flow measurement system are located at the same elevation as the flowmeter taps. The impulse tubing is routed down 25 cm (10 inches) from the taps and then up to the transmitter to form a condensate seal. What is the approximate pressure measurement error if the air is not bled out of one of the impulse tubes during calibration?  click for more...

Some serious coolness from FCI-- a Vortab Insertion Plate
Published by ControlGlobal.com

For at least 15 years, my writing and consulting partner David W. Spitzer and I have written positively about the Vortab line of flow conditioners from FCI. These unique devices are the only devices that can take a 100 upstream diameter flow upset location and turn it into a 5 to 7 upstream diameter non upset installation. They are patented, and they work.  Now, Vortab has produced something new.  click for more...
